Common Name: Drywood Termite
Scientific Name: Various
Class/Order/Family: Insecta/Isoptera/Kalotermidtidae
Metamorphosis: Simple

Introduction: As their name implies, drywood termites live
in wood which has a relatively low moisture content. They
require no contact with the ground or other moisture source.
What moisture they require must come from the wood they
inhabit and eat. For this reason, drywoods are usually found
in the humid coastal and subtropical regions but there are
several species found in the desert southwest. They can
be transported outside these areas in infested furniture,
picture frames, etc.
Although there are many species of drywood termites, they
all belong to the same family, the Kalotermidtidae. They
are all rather similar in appearance.
